Migraine: treatments & research

As yet, there are no standard treatments for migraine and so sufferers must often try a number of different medications before they find one which works for them – Many are still looking.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Working with a migraine

The Migraine Trust funds and supports vital research into the condition, its causes and treatments. Its helpline manager is Susan Haydon. “It’s not given the priority it should have at any level.”

The main migraine treatments fall into two categories – acute, for use during an attack, and preventative – taken on a daily basis in tablet form.

Research continues in search of new treatments which work equally well for everybody and without side effects – Meanwhile, migraine sufferers are advised to keep a migraine diary which can help to show any pattern between attacks and lifestyle.

Susan Haydon says there are lots of exciting things happening in the world of migraine research and that “it is giving up it’s secrets and so the quality of life for people with migraine is only going to get better in the future.”
