Cycling is fun, affordable, environmentally friendly, reduces traffic congestion and is good for your health.
Studies have shown that cycling for at least 30 minutes a day gives people a level of fitness equivalent to being 10 years younger. And any risks associated with cycling for both children and adults far outweigh its benefits, according to Cycling England.
This is echoed by the British Medical Association who say that cycling benefits both the individual -through increased health and mobility - and society - by reducing air pollution and traffic congestion. Even in the current hostile traffic environment, they say, the benefits gained from regular cycling are likely to outweigh the loss of life through accidents for regular cyclists.

Why Cycle?, DirectGov and Transport for London, provide information about cycling safety and security.
The Highway Code's Rules for cyclists lists what you 'must not' do (cycle on the pavement) and 'should' do (wear a helmet).
Find out about the government's Bikeability scheme, to help get children back on their bikes. The Bike for All website provides useful information about cycling to school.
Or get details about the government's Cycle to Work tax incentive that allows employees to purchase a new bike through their employer VAT-free. Although the paperwork may be daunting, an online calculator from Cyclescheme helps you work out how much money you can save.
