Modern life: it's all too stressful!
Work-related stress is typically the most common form of stress and the most challenging to manage.
The difficulties in coping with this category of stress have been exacerbated in recent years, and, according to Jenny Edwards from solutions4stress, modern technology hasn't helped.
Supporting stress
Jenny explains that the ease with which we now communicate means that, for many of us, the demands of the office are continually imposing themselves on our home lives: "Mobile phones, blackberries….take our work home with us.'' It can be impossible to get a proper night's rest when the worries of work are always in the background.
Persistent pressure and having to deal with the constant demands of the office will often lead to stress if the factors causing it are not addressed. The problem is that some of us don't even realise that we are stressed - and this is something which needs to change. Avoiding stress is almost impossible as ''it's always going to be around us,' yet this makes it all the more important that we learn how to manage it. Jenny suggests that people can achieve this ''by harnessing their resources and building on their own strengths.'' She adds that in this way ''we become more resilient. Better at coping with what life throws at us.''
