What causes high blood pressure?

  • Genetics. If your parents have it you are more likely to have it
  • Age. The older you get, the higher the risk
  • Being of Afro-Caribbean or South Asian origin
  • Being overweight
  • Eating too much salt!
  • Too much alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Lack of exercise
  • Stress
     

Despite being a serious condition, we can all do something to help ourselves.

What can I do?

  • Eat more fruit and vegetables. It helps!
  • Cut down on the amount of salt you consume
  • Do regular physical activity
  • Lose weight
  • Reduce your stress levels
  • Drink alcohol in moderation
