Causes of high blood pressure
High blood pressure is a big deal and affects 3 out of every 10 people in the UK.
What causes high blood pressure?
- Genetics. If your parents have it you are more likely to have it
- Age. The older you get, the higher the risk
- Being of Afro-Caribbean or South Asian origin
- Being overweight
- Eating too much salt!
- Too much alcohol
- Smoking
- Lack of exercise
- Stress
Despite being a serious condition, we can all do something to help ourselves.
What can I do?
- Eat more fruit and vegetables. It helps!
- Cut down on the amount of salt you consume
- Do regular physical activity
- Lose weight
- Reduce your stress levels
- Drink alcohol in moderation
